You’ve heard of it – SpaceX. Elon Musk’s new space exploration company. It’s been popular in the news lately and just recently had a manned launch out of Florida.

I’m sure you’ve also heard of YouTube – the most popular video streaming website on the planet.

Now put the two together and you have one of the newest scams formulated in the digital universe!

Scammers have somehow managed to hack two YouTube channels and renamed them “SpaceX” and “SpaceX Live.” That’s right. They want people to believe they are the real, legitimate SpaceX channels.

It’s a known fact that Elon Musk is super into cryptocurrency. The hackers have taken this knowledge and use it to their advantage. Their new scam works like this:

They impersonate Elon Musk and use the fake channels to promote managed cryptocurrency investments. You just have to send them a small amount of Bitcoin, and in return, they promise extraordinary investment returns.

The two channels together have nearly 500,000 subscribers and the scammers have already collected nearly $150,000 thus far! People get so excited and caught up in the excitement, that they forget to actually do their due diligence before sending their money to a strange YouTube channel.

Don’t get drawn in to the allure of promising returns. Do your research and make sure wherever you are putting your money is legitimate. Avoid carelessness and be mindful of what websites you are browsing while on the world wide web.

Just remember the old saying – if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is!
